Just my opinion, but anything with the word hacking in it should be approached with caution as there are many folks with worse prejudice to the name. Certificed Pen Tester or some such title will serve will if one wants to focus on assessment or incident response. And the skills learned in most of the CEH classes are helpful if you have minimal exposure. I suspect if your skills are good, self-taught would work just as well, but I haven't put that to the test. Yet. |

Thanks for the advice, im realy confuse on which degree to choose as i belive i would be ivery happy in both but forensics within the legal side would fascinate me maybe a bit more the Ethical hacker side and i couldnt think of anything more satifying than actualy breaking up a pedo ring or something similar (thats i ever get offered a job in the police side of it).
Thanks again. |

| Well, don't forget that you'll still have to make a living while getting the experience you need in forensics. The problem with Pen testing is it requires more experience than forensics to break into (IMHO). |

The Ethical Hacker goes hand in hand with Forensics. If you know how the attacker attacks and how they think, it makes life so much easier to find the evidence. However, your comment about breaking a pedo ring can only be done legally through forensic investigation and not “Ethical Hacking”. If you “hack” ‘em, you just broke the law.
With that said, there are several very good pen testing certs out there:
CEH -> LPT: www .eccouncil.org
IPTQ -> IPTE: www .oissg.org
CPT -> CEPT: www .iacertification.org
CPTS -> CPTE: www .mile2.org
I would suggest training because there is a lot of value with hands on training. OISSG’s certs were released last month and are based off the ISSAF. I believe you can pass all the base certs using that document. |
