Anyone looked at smart phones with GPS in them? I've got Treo 800w and Mogul 6800 from sprint, both have GPS built in.

Yes, please post a link to the Garmin paper you referenced. It would be most useful.

If anyone has experience conducting analysis on gps devices and would like to discuss their findings please let me know. I have been testing different models for the last few months and would like to discuss findings/ideas with others.

I am in the final stages of testing the Garmin Nuvi 205 with some results. I have quickly looked at the Nuvi 250 which has some diferences.
The bad news is the codes I found earlier are of no use to the new Sat Navs.

hello,

this is my first question in this forum and so i think i should tell something about me. -short-

So, i'm working in Germany. My job is investigated and examine PC-Systems, PDA, GPS-Systems and Cellphones.
For my investigations i must make a physical backup of the source (HDD, Flash-Drive.......)

In Germany we used main the X-Ways Forensic Tool and FTK-Imager to make a backup in Encase.

In the last time i have more and more GPS-Systems (Tom Tom, Becker, Garmin and so......)

X-Ways and FTK-Imager can't make a physical backup of this.
I have looked for some special tools and i found the paraben device seizure.

Paraben Device Seizure costs $1095.
For testing is it to expensive.

The Demo of the Tool is too old for the new GPS-Systems.

Can anybody tell me more about the Paraben Tool ?

Thanks for answer,

Horst

Paraben's GPS tools do not work. They are plagued with connectivty and driver issues. I even broke down and call them for support and they simply said,,,"We don't know why it isn't working"

Look for the GPX files. They are just XML. The files in slack space on the GPS are mostly deleted GPX files.

Mount the Garmin in FTK Imager and look in the slack space.

I do not have the link handy, but Google Richard Drinkwater Forensics from the sausage factory, he wrote a post on Garmin GPS a few years ago.
